2027 Maryland General Assembly session: the dates that matter

The 2027 regular session of the Maryland General Assembly convenes in Annapolis on Wednesday, January 13, 2027, and adjourns sine die on Monday, April 12, 2027 — the standard ninety-day session set by the Maryland Constitution. It is the first session of the 2027–2030 legislative term, which means new and returning members, new committee assignments, and a first-year budget cycle all land in the same ninety days.

The housing timeline runs earlier than the session
Organizations that need an Annapolis base for session — trade associations, government-affairs teams, lobbying firms — generally settle housing between September and November of the preceding year. Downtown Annapolis is small: its historic district holds a limited number of hotels and only a handful of whole houses offered as dedicated session rentals, and both are typically committed well before opening day. By December, what remains is usually a compromise on location or on terms.
Two practical notes from experience. First, arrival is rarely on opening day — teams want the preceding week to move in, set up, and settle before the pace picks up. Second, sine die can run late into the night and departure rarely happens the next morning, so a housing term that brackets the session by roughly a week on each end avoids re-booking around the edges.
Lodging reimbursement, briefly. For the 2027–2030 term, Maryland ties member lodging reimbursement during session to the U.S. General Services Administration per-diem rate for Annapolis. The GSA lodging rate for Annapolis for January–April is $125 per night under FY2026 rates; FY2027 rates (which govern January–April 2027) publish in the fall of 2026.
